Vodka is the great equaliser of the cocktail world. Cleaner and more neutral than gin or whiskey, it lets the supporting ingredients lead — which is why the same bottle can carry a creamy White Russian, a sharp Cosmopolitan and a long Moscow Mule without anything tasting confused.

Most vodka cocktails fall into one of three buckets: citrus-driven shorts (Cosmo, Lemon Drop), highballs (Vodka Soda, Mule, Sea Breeze), or richer, dessert-leaning drinks (Espresso Martini, White Russian). They scale well, which is why vodka dominates party menus.
